New year, New Lies We Tell Ourselves...

I don't make new years resolutions. Usually because that would require thinking about my life beyond the next week and that most often leads to a spiral. I find it is best for my mental stability to only take things a week at a time. This year has just begun and I have already had a few verbal arguments (I'm trying guys), done some charitable giving (Supporting a college aged sister counts right?), and wished I lived on a remote island only accessible by amazon planes so I can use my "prime" shipping.
My life, like most others, is full of ups and downs. Twist and turns... Loops and nosedives. Last year was another year of growing I needed and offered a lot of hurdles. But I am still standing. My legs are still moving and occasionally I feel like running.
This year I want give myself a chance to make some real changes. This year I want to make a few resolutions. Don't get too excited, this may turn into a pack of lies (hence the title).
This year I want to do for the year of 2018:
        1. Kiss a man without knowing his first name (Overcoming some very serious germaphobia)
        2. Write at least four books (While maintain some semblance of a life and working full time)
        3. Go somewhere with a lot of sand and sun (Can't waste a winter of getting beach body ready right? Ha, yeah right.)
      4. Go on a date with a man I did not immediately regret getting dressed up for (Dude, why are you not even worth the effort I put into blending into my              concealer?)
        5. Stand up in a room full of people and shine. (Can't just save the smartassery for my house and close friends)
        6. Walk away from unnecessary drama, even when I know I am right, because it is not worth the years subtracted from my life (It is just sooo hard!!!)
Right! So there it is. My list of resolutions/possible lies. It is, a few weeks late I know, but at least it is here and in the right month.
I know it has been a while since I have posted. Life got crazy... Books needed writing... Bills needed to be paid. Haha. But I want to reassure you all of those things will happen again this year and I will manage to get a post up at least one a month. Writing as good a balm as any for a antisocial introvert like me. I get to share my thoughts without having to have a prolonged conversation where I am constantly reviewing what I said to make sure I don't offend delicate sensibilities (have I mentioned I can be a bit of a smartass?).
I want this space to be a safe place, a reprieve from the crazy that is the outside world. I want those who read my work to laugh, cry, and walk away from the scenes that pushed all of their buttons until they have found their happy median again.
This year will be the year of faith and adventure. Do you want to be a part of it?

Therapy

The wishes I have are simple.
The hopes I have are not new.
The things I have seen are not unheard of.
The faith I have has been betrayed.
My trust has not gone untested.
My heart has been broken.
But my eyes do see things.
My ears do hear.
My ways may be different.
My insight difficult to hear.
But I do know one thing.
It must be heard.

The Proposal – (Wintr's Homecoming Novella)

It is not what he says, but the way that he says it.

We are not perfect. I am not perfect. But he makes me feel faultless.

Jinx slowly lifted the zipper of her skirt and tucked her silk yellow blouse in. It was date night and Dominic was taking her somewhere special. She smiled as she bent foreword to take in her reflection. She had gathered her curls into a high pineapple bun and purposely curled her bangs to frame her face. The “V” of her shirt showcased her breasts without reveling too much.
Breathing deeply Jinx began to hum beneath her breath. Loving someone as much as she loved him should have sent her running. It had in the beginning. But the time he invested in building the trust between them eased the worst of her fears.
A year ago she had been a happy single. Dominic had been a part of a past she never wanted to remember. His reappearance sparked a change. Love and adventure rushed in to shake things up, and wake her from the quiet cycle of life she had been stuck in.
      “You look beautiful.”
The deep rumble of his voice spread warmth through her. She picked up her pearl earrings and turned towards him, a smile spread across her lips. Dominic wore a fitted black Karl Lagerfeld suit. Her mouth watered at the sight of those cleans lines and the way the arms molded to his biceps. She was a lucky girl.
“You are looking pretty handsome yourself.”
Dominic’s grey eyes glinted as he approached her, a satisfied smirk on his lips. Jinx slipped on her earrings as she met him halfway. His hand slipped onto the small of her back as he bent his head forward to kiss her lips. Jinx fell into his embrace with an eagerness she used to resent.
Dominic had burrowed so deeply under her skin she could not explain where he began and she ended. When he pulled back she placed her hands on his neck and caressed the line of his jaw softly.
“I love you with everything I have.”
Dominic pushed at the collar of her blouse to revel their mated mark. “I love you with everything we have.”
****
Dominic placed his hand onto Jinx’s knee as they crossed the bridge out of the city. She leaned back and turned to face him. It had been a crazy year. So many things had changed. They had been tested and every near miss brought them closer together. Their connection was so much more then he ever thought it would be.
Jinx had no idea what he was planning. He wanted it that way. Otherwise she would find an excuse to avoid it. She did not like sudden changes. He had to ease her into things. Streetlights flicked over her truffle brown skin. Highlighting her high cheekbones and almond shaped eyes. She bit plump cashmere brown lips and placed her hand over his.
This was his future, and present.
****
Dominic drove through the gates of a manor. Jinx frowned as she looked around. They were forty minutes out of the city. She thought they were going to dinner at an out of the way restaurant. Instead he had brought her here. Trees lined the graveled road they drove down.
       “Where are we?”
Dominic said nothing as he pulled into a circular drive and stopped the car. He got out and Jinx's mind started racing as she looked out of her window. Dominic pulled her door open. Even in the dark Jinx could see the elaborate design of the manor. It had tall archways and columns.
Jinx faltered at the sight of hundreds of lit candles and strewn rose petals. A table with an emerald green tablecloth and covered plates sat at the entrance of the home. Her breath caught in her throat as Dominic stepped in front of her and lowered himself onto a single knee.
Her brain stopped functioning. This wasn’t happening. They agreed a wedding was unnecessary. The thought of the ceremony sent her into a panic. They were already pretty much stuck with each other. No one was going anywhere. But to take that final step seemed too much for her to deal with. As irrational as that was.
He pulled a dark blue box out of his pocket and held it up. Jinx’s hands clenched as she fought the urge to reach out and touch it. Her heartbeat pumped hard. This was not happening. She was home. Sleeping. Dreaming.
“You are opinionated. Stubborn. And often more then I can handle.”
Jinx chuckled even as she stared down at the tiny object in his hand. It wasn’t a ring. He is messing with her. He had to be.
“But I love you. I love our life together and want to continue the future we are building,” Dominic continued as he opened the ring box to revel an amber set gold ring.
Jinx knees weakened and she pitched forward slightly. Dominic pulled the ring out and took her left hand in his. This was happening. He was proposing and Jinx could not move. She did not know where to go.
“You used to be afraid I would leave first. I used to be terrified something would happen to send running further then ever before. I am sure you are looking for the nearest exit even now.”
“Then why are you doing this,” Jinx exclaimed finally able to say something.
“Because allowing fear to guide us will only cause regret. We deserve better,” Dominic slipped the ring onto her finger then turned her hand palm up to pressed a kiss there.
      “Marry me.”
      “That is not a question.”
Dominic stood up and stepped closer to her. His hands settled onto her waist as he looked down at her. Love radiated off of him. Jinx placed her hand over his heart as she stared into his grey eyes.
“I am not asking you. I have learned by now that giving you an option in these matters usually ends in you getting your way.”
Jinx smiled wryly and looked at the ring. At its very center was a dragonfly stuck in mid flight. Its wings fully spread. The ring fit her. It was not too big or ordinary.
“I am not the best with orders either.”
“You follow them more often then you don’t,” Dominic replied as he slid a hand up the side of her rib cage then slipped it under her chin.
He tilted her face up and bent forwards to kiss the tip of her nose then pressed his forehead to hers. “Marry me. Marry me and I promise the years we have together will be filled with more good things then bad.”

Andris Portè – Shadowy Lights

Shadowy Lights is about how fear affects a relationship. How it stunts its growth and suffocates the love. Andris Portè is a prince and a man in love with a woman afraid to take her place by his side. Her own feelings of inadequacy cause her to act defensively and push him away.
What does a man do when his woman cannot let go of the past? He cannot give her confidence and is unable to sooth her fears. Glee wants to be loved by everyone and forgets that the most important person who needs to love her is herself.
Readers love Andris because he is sincere in his feelings. The position he finds himself in is a realistic one. When you can’t be with the one you love… You try to settle for someone else. He could not love Glee in the shadow.
So he let her go. But she is still in his heart. They created a bond long ago and fostered a friendship that endured centuries. The fear that damaged them, did not destroy what they were to each other. While others may get hurt there is no denying the passion shared between the two.

Here is an exclusive of Shadowy Lights –Excerpt from Chapter 8

Andris sipped whiskey and looked at the picture in his hand. It was a picture of Glee in one of his old shirts. He saw the scene as it played out in his head. Sunlight streamed through the window casting a glow on her skin. Her legs called to him as he watched her sway. Perfection.
She had a bright smile on her face and had spoon in her hand. He had taken the picture on the sly while she sang and cooked. It had been a moment of shared pleasure as they enjoyed a Saturday morning together.
He could hear her off key voice cracking on the high notes. He could smell the scrambled eggs, toast, and coffee. They had been so carefree and full of love. Her voice had been horrible, but he loved to hear it.
‘Rain drops keep falling on my head.’
Andris stepped toward her as he adjusted his pjs. ‘The eggs are burning.’
Glee stopped singing and turned towards the stove. ‘No, it is not.’
Andris wrapped an arm around her waist and pulled her against him. She giggled as he kissed the nap of her neck.
     ‘I know.’
Glee turned and wrapped her arms his neck as she rose onto the tips of her toes. ‘It won’t be long till happiness steps up to greet me.’
Andris leaned forward and lifted her as Glee wrapped her legs around his waist. The feel of her in his arms was right. They were right together. Glee pressed her forehead to his and continued to sing as she stroked the back of his head.
     ‘Crying’s not for me.
Her voice faded as Andris downed the last of his whiskey. She was haunting him now. Memories bombarded him. Love should not be this difficult. Movement made him sit up as Sabrina’s voice drifted out from beneath the covers.
     “Come to bed.”

Circling Currents

I speak and sometimes it feels like the words just fade away.
No one hears.
No one listens.
I scream and it echos for only me.

You Nag.
Are Unforgiving.
You Live in the past.

Labels surround me.
Bombard me.
But they are just words.
So like mine I let them fade.
I don't listen.
My ears hear nothing.

The Brokenhearted – Anaya Jalloh

They should have left that night. Her and her mother should have left the night Imaani left. Micah's wife had run away from everything with just the clothes on her back. The woman had left the man Anaya wanted almost as badly as she needed her next breath. Pain pierced her chest as she opened the door to his study. The scent of alcohol washed over her as she slipped in.
The servants avoided this room. Micah’s temper terrified them. His growls warned of danger. The broken glass and furniture was a hazard. Anaya gripped the skirt of her dress and slowly approached him. His head was bent low. His cotton white shirt was soiled beyond repair. His pants were ripped.
            “Get out.”
“I don’t think I will.” Her voice held steady.
Glass crunched beneath the soles of her shoes as she approached him. Sunlight filtered down on them, warming her skin and casting a harsh light on the destruction. He blamed her. She was his scrape goat. The reason, his lies had fallen to dust once the truth came to rear its head.
Micah slowly lifted his head. His dreads falling back as he lifted a bottle half filled with what looked like whiskey. He brought the bottle to his lips and took a swig before throwing the bottle at her face. Anaya ducked and jumped as the bottle hit the wall to her left. Her heart shuddered as her eyes filled with tears.
He was supposed to be her protector. Her beloved. Yet he was the only man who could bring her to tears. Anaya stumbled a step before she steeled herself. Her mother was beginning to grow impatient. She saw this situation as proof of Anaya’s weakness. How could she lead the tribe when she could not curb her mate?
           “Get. Out.”
Anaya stood before him. “You always hurt me.”
           “Get out.”
“You stab me in the heart.”
           “Leave than.”
Anaya looked down at the ground carefully before lowering herself to her knees. The waxed wooden floors were hard on her knees, but it was nothing compared to what the man before caused. The skirt of her dress flowed out around her. The colorful pattern adding a deceptive feeling of cheer. Anaya tucked her feet together and looked into his dark brown eyes. Her unshed tears blurred her vision just a bit.
“I have been your best friend.”
           “You are a curse.”
“I have loved you for as long as I have known what love is.” Anaya heard the heartbreak in his voice and it tore at her.
“You let your jealousy ruin me.” Micah sneered at her.
Shaking her head in denial she met his angry gaze. “I have tried to give you everything.”
           “You wanted to trap me.”
Anaya’s breath deserted her. The hatred in his eyes was pure and it hit her like a punch in the gut. This was not her doing. It was his. He lied to Imani. Hid the most important parts of himself from her. Yet, she was the destroyer?
           “You betrayed me.”
“No." Micah growled. "You did the betraying. You hated that I wanted someone else. To be something else. So you destroyed everything.”
Anaya shook her head. “Imaani ran from the truth. From the shattered lies you told her.”
“You have destroyed all of my trust.”
It was as if they were having two separate conversations. He heard nothing she said. Her hands clenched as she fought down her sadness and anger to reach for her empathy. They could rip each other apart or begin to heal the wounds already inflicted. He needed to blame someone. Anaya had given him she could. She could give him this. If they could get away from this.
"I begged you to love me. Trust me. To stay by my side. You left and I... I forgave you. So forgive me." Anaya begged as tears fell from her eyes
